491. School Sri Sugatha Secondary (UVA)

Rural school with 620 children grade 6-13 from poor families and 58 teachers make use of the new facilities.
This school is situated in Badulla district Ballaketuwa village in the tea state area, the school land is divided into four levels.
They were struggling for water for many years (over 40 years), every year in the dry season for 7 months no water, they bring water with plastic cans near by the cannel or they buy water from a water bouser to do their highly necessary. School children and the teachers struggling for drinking water and for cleaning purpose for many years, A natural water source is located about 600meters away from the school.
Most of the Parents working in tea estates and vegetable farms, for their family income and some others do daily labor, these villages are very poor.
Realized, improved water and sanitation facilities:
Connected the pipeline to the community pipeline, bring water by gravity through PVC pipeline from source well to the school (700m), construct 4 low concrete water tower with handrail, construct total pipe line system inside the school, construct 7 concrete washing units (1 unit has 4 taps) construct 7 tap posts, reconstructed the existing 3 washing units, paint the existing concrete water stand, supply materials to reconstruct the existing 2 toilets, paint all constructions, Etc……
Parents and children help: transport materials from gate to construction sites, digging for the piping.
