A rural and poor school with 400 Children grade 06 – 13 from low income families and 44 teachers use the new facilities.
The school is situated in boarder of the Minneriya National Park and far from the Polonnaruwa city area in North Central Province, and most of the teachers who teach in this school have to travel far away from the city to the school daily. We realized that they were struggling with less water facilities and less sanitary facilities, they had not proper sanitary system in this school for many years therefore they have to face many difficulties. Majority of the Parents are very poor, most of the parents are working in paddy fields and and some others working in chena cultivation farms (Vegetable farms) as daily labours, few parents working in governmental organizations and some parents are fishermen in lakes , most of the parents education background is very poor and their family life style is very poor.
To realized, improved water and sanitation facilities:
Construct new 2 latrines and 4 urinals in 0ne building, repair and extend the existing pipeline system for the constructed sanitary buildings, construct 1 hand washing unit (1 unit has 3 taps), construct a main gate for the sanitary building (out siders cannot enter) paint all our constructions.
Parents and children help: transport materials from the gate to construction sites, digging and fixing for the pipe line and digging the toilet pits.
