A rural and poor school with 356 Children grade 1-5 from low income families and 16 teachers use the new facilities.
The school is situated in isolated rural area, far from the Polonnaruwa city area in North Central Province, and all the teachers who teach in this school have to travel far away from thecity to the school daily. We realized that they were struggling with less water and sanitary facilities and they had not proper water delivery system in this school for many years.
Majority of the Parents are very poor and about 80% of the parents are working in paddy fields and fishermen in minneriya lake and some others working in rice mills as daily labours, some school children’s mother or father has died, most of the parents education background is very poor, few parents working in governmental organizations, their family life style is very poor.
To realized, improved water and sanitation facilities:
Reconstruction of 6 urinals in 1 building, construction of total pipeline system for the school premises and for the all sanitary buildings, supply 1.000L water tank, construction of a 1 hand washing unit (1 unit has 4 taps) and 2 tap posts, paint all our constructions.
Parents and children help: transport materials from the gate to construction sites, digging and fixing for the pipe line and digging the toilet pits.
