A rural and poor school with 865 Children grade 6-13 from low income families and 82 teachers use the new facilities.
The school is situated in isolated rural area, far from the Polonnaruwa city area in North Central Province, and all the teachers who teach in this school have to travel far from the city to the school daily. We realized that they were struggling with less sanitary facilities and they had not a proper water delivery system in this school for many years.
Majority of the parents are very poor and about 20% of the parents are working in governmental organizations, and from that, about 10% working as labours in government sector. And others are working in paddy fields. Their family life style is very poor.
Realized, improved water and sanitation facilities:
Reconstruction of 4 latrines, 12 urinals in 2 buildings with a ceramic hand washing unit, reconstruction of 2 latrines in one building, reconstruction of 4 latrine building, construct new 2 toilet pits, total pipeline system for the school premises and for the all sanitary buildings, construct new 5 hand washing units (1 unit has 4 taps) and reconstruct 1 wash unit, construct 5 tap posts, paint all our constructions.
Parents and children help: transport materials from the gate to construction sites, digging and fixing for the pipe line and digging the toilet pits.
