A rural and poor Tamil school with 575 Children grade 1 – 13 from poor families and 67 teachers use the new facilities.
School is situated in mountain area far from the Demodara town area in Badulla District in Uva Province and villagers who are living here has very low income and they are very poor, and some parents of the children working as daily labors in tea estates in the village and working as daily labours in town. They had an open well but not clean water for drinking and they were struggling for 55years for proper water and sanitation facility system for the school , in the dry season no water for drinking and also for cleaning toilets, especially for the small students and the teachers struggling for sanitary needs. They had not enough sanitary facilities for the children and teachers in the school.
Realized, water and sanitation facilities:
Construct low concrete water stand, supply 5000L water stock tank, totally reconstruct 4 latrines and one building with 3 urinals, construction of total new pipeline system for the entire school (610m long), construct 5 hand washing units (one unit has 4 taps), 8 tap posts, painting all new constructions. After the new water and sanitation facilities now they can cultivate vegetables in the school land and now their hygiene is in good condition.
Parents and teachers helped to carry materials from the gate to construction sites, digging for the pipe line and laying and painting.
