The Hydry Community, including the Sri Bodhiraja Buddhist Temple, is located in the Rozella – Hatton Tea Estate area of the Pasbage Korale Divisional Secretary’s Division, in the Kandy District of the Central Province of Sri Lanka. The community is identified as a marginalized rural community, composed of 37 families totaling 180 individuals The Bodhiraja Buddhist Temple, situated atop a hill, serves as the primary place of worship for the community and provides significant religious support for families in need.
The Hydry community is recognized as one of the isolated communities in the Sri Lankan hill country. Its members rely on limited local employment opportunities and receive low wages due to their disadvantages. Recently, the only remaining government school was also closed, forcing community children to travel long distances to attend schools.
The Hydry Community lacked sufficient access to a basic human necessity: safe water. Instead, community members resorted to using unsafe water sources found in the area. Additionally, there was a lack of proper water storage and drainage systems.
Realized, improved water facilities:
Reconstructed the main water source by constructing a new water storage tank. constructed a new water pipeline system from the main water source to the temple, which is 650m in length. installed a 5000-liter water tank in the water pipeline system. provided a water supply to the Bodhiraja Buddhist Temple. established a water pipeline access to implement a water supply project for the Hydry Community.
