A rural and poor school with 52 Children grade 1 – 5 from poor families and 8 teachers use the new facilities.
School is situated in Nuwara Eliya district away from the city area called Ragala, Mahakudugala village in Central Province. The families who are living here has very low income, and most of the parents of children working as daily labors in tea estates and others working in vegetable farms. They have a source well but in dry season it gets totally dry. They have water only about for 6 months and the rest of the time they have to face lot of problems because no water at all in school. These small children and the teachers were struggling for water from 15 years.
Realized, improved water and sanitation facilities:
Construct a deep tube well (62m deep), supply water pump electrical panel board electrical cable and construct pump house, construct low 2 concrete water stands, supply 2.000L water tank, construction of total pipeline system (400m long) and connect the pipeline to school buildings, construct 2 hand washing units (one unit has 4 taps) and 7 tap posts, reconstruct existing 1 hand washing unit, reconstruction of 4 latrines and 1 building with 3 urinals, painting all constructions. Now they are farming vegetables and flowers in the school garden and also now their hygiene facility is higher than the past.
Parents and teachers helped to bring materials to construction site and for labour work.
