A rural and poor school with 101 Children grade 1 – 11 from poor families and 19 teachers use the new facilities.
School is situated on top of the mountain (height 920 m) in Landupitiya village, far from the Padiyapelella town area Nuwara Eliya District in Central Province. The villagers who are living here are very poor, and some parents of the children working as daily labors in vegetable farms and some others working as daily labours in tea states and rice fields. They have and old pipeline system, every day it is broken and the eldest school boys have to repair it during school time. Also their toilet facilities are very poor. In the dry season no water for drinking and also for cleaning toilets and also no water for the teachers who spend the night in the quarter. Every year in dry season they are struggling for water from February to April and September to December. Other months they have to walk for water about 1 kmto get the water from a source well.
Realized, improved water and sanitation facilities:
Construction of natural water source, construct a stone fence to protect the well from landslides (2’ high and 40’ long) construction of a low concrete water stand, supply 5.000L water stock tank, supply total pipeline system from source well to school (1.100m long) and school premises and existing school buildings and existing toilets, we used GI pipes for the pipe line system 70m long, another pipeline from water source for the community people, construct 1 toilet and 3 urinals in one building, construct 2 toilets, construct 3 hand washing units (1 unit has 4 taps), 4 tap posts, painting all constructions.
Parents, teachers helped bring materials to construction sites, digging for the pipe line and painting.
