A rural and poor school with 27 children grade 1 – 5 from poor families and 6 teachers use the new facilities.
School is situated in very rural and isolated area in Higurawala village, far from the Therepehe town area Kandy District in Central Province and villagers who are living here is very poor, and some parents of the children working as daily labors in vegetable farms and rice fields and some others working as daily labours in Chena cultivations. In the dry season no water for drinking and also for cleaning toilets, every year in dry season they are facing many difficulties for water during the year and they have to walk for water for the source well far from the school.
Realized, improved water and sanitation facilities:
Construction of a source well, fixing well cover with steel sheets, construction of low concrete water stand (4’ high and 10’ long 7’ wide), construct a hand rail for the concrete tower, supply 2000L water tank, repair the existing water tank, from source well supply total pipeline system to school using GI pipes and lay PVC pipeline in school premises and existing school buildings and existing toilets, construction of 1 hand washing unit (one unit has 3 taps), 1 tap post, painting all constructions.
Parents, teachers helped bring materials to construction site, digging earth for the pipe line and closing after laying pipe and painting.
