Rural school with 220 children grade 1-11 from poor families and 22 teachers make use of
the new facilities.
The school is situated in isolated rural area, far from the main city Badulla in Uva province.
We realized that they were struggling with less water facilities and they had not proper
water delivery system in this school for many years.
School receives limited time water through a small pipeline from the community once a
week only, this is not enough. No water no toilet cleaning, a nasty situation, especially for
the growing girls. Parents of the children working as daily labours and some others are
vegetable farmers.
Realized, improved water and sanitation facilities:
Supply new connection to the school by connecting to the community pipeline 300m away
from the school, we had to lay the pipe line by crossing the main road, construct 2 low
concrete water stands with handrails, supply 5.000L water stock tank and 2.000L water tank,
construct pump house with control panel and supply electrical pump, supply electricity
cable, construct total pipe line system and connected to the school buildings sanitary
buildings and for the vegetable garden inside the school premises, construct 2 concrete
washing units (1 unit has 4 taps) and 4 tap posts.
Parents and children help transport materials from gate to construction site and digging for
the pipe line. Now they have water throughout the year for drinking, cleaning and also for
vegetable and flower planting inside the school.
After completion of the project we supply some plants for planting inside the school
premises.
