406. Kalupahana Maha school (Uva Province)

A rural and poor school with 205 Children, grade 1 – 13 from low income families and 31 teachers use the new facilities.

The school is situated in top of the mountain in isolated village in Uva Province. The school building situated in 4 land levels, in dry season there is no water at all for drinking and even for cleaning purposes. This school is struggling for water many months during the year, this is a terrible situation. Majority of the Parents working in vegetable farms and tea states for their family income and some others do daily labor these villages are very poor. Realized, improved water and sanitation facilities: Reconstruct a source well 900 meters away from the land in top of the school area, brought water from the source well with gravity system to school, construct 3 low concrete water stands in three land levels with steel hand rail, Total pipeline system for the school premises, 1000L new plastic water tank, construct new 3 sinks (one unit has 4 taps), 6 tap posts, connect the pipeline to existing toilet buildings in school, paint all our constructions, Etc… Parents and children help: transport materials from the gate to construction sites, digging and fixing for the pipe line.
