399. School Sri Pemananda Vidyalaya (UVA Prov)

Rural school with 115 children grade 1-5 from poor families and 12 teachers make use of the new facilities.
The school is situated in isolated rural area, far from the main city area in Uva province. We realized that they were struggling with no water facilities. During the rainy season school gets some water from cannel but it is muddy water in dry season they get the limited water from a cannel near by the school and the water is very dirty, in the most dry season school has no water, no toilet cleaning. Majority of the parents are vegetable farmers and some others are daily labours, they are very poor.
Realized, improved water and sanitation facilities:
Positive Water place investigation, construct a deep tube well (63m deep), supply electricity cable/ panel board and under water pump, construct a small pump house, construct total pipeline system for the school premises and for the sanitary buildings, reconstruct an old toilet building with concrete roof to keep the water tank, construct 2 concrete washing units (1 unit has 4 taps) and 5 tap posts and 1 post for school vegetable garden.
Parents and children help transport materials from gate to construction sites and digging for the pipeline. Now they have water throughout the year for drinking, cleaning and also for vegetable and flower planting inside the school after the project completion we gave some plants for planting.
