Rural school with totally 87 children grade 1-5 from poor families and 10 teachers make use of the new facilities.
School is situated in very rural area (Poonagala village), far away from the Bandarawela town area Badulla District in Uva Province, and villagers who are living here is very poor, and some parents of the children working as daily labours in tea estates for low salary.
The existing pipeline from the mountain source is more than 45 years old; a lot of leakage through broken decayed pipes and they did not have enough water even for cleaning toilets. Daily the teachers repair the pipes with rubber bicycle tires, a never ending job.
Realized, improved water and sanitation facilities:
Reconstruction source well, well cover, bring the water from the source well by gravity 1.300m long, total pipeline system from source well to school water stock tank, and the to the school premises and to the existing toilet buildings, construct 2 low concrete water stands and supply 1.000L and 2.000L water tanks, constructed the 3 hand washing units (1 unit has 4 taps), 4 tap posts, Painting all new constructions, we supplied some plants to school. After the new construction now the school have the proper water system for drinking and for the sanitation purpose.
Parents and teachers helped to carry materials from gate to construction sites, digging for the piping.
