368. School Warakawa K.V (CP)

A rural and poor school with 300 children, grade 1 – 11 from low income families and 22 teachers use the new facilities.
The school is situated in high mountain area in Gonawala pathana village and it is isolated rural area and far from the Nawalapitiya city area in Central Province. They get water from a small stream but there is no enough water and in rain season the water get muddy. In dry season the stream totally get dryand raining season the water get muddy, they are struggling for water for several months in the year that season they do not have water for drinking and cleaning toilets. Children have to walk for water nearby places.
Majority of the parents working as daily labours in tea states and tea factories for their family income and some others do daily labor in city area, these villages are very poor.
Realized, improved water and sanitation facilities:
Water place investigations, construction of new well (200 meters away from the school and school is situated in 63 meters higher than the well and the well 4 meters long 4 meters wide and 1.5 meters deep and the school is built in five land levels, fixing well cover, construct a pump house panel board and supply an electrical cable 180 meters long and  supply electrical water pump, construction of low concrete water tower with hand rails, supply 5000L water tank, total pipeline system for the school premises and for existing toilets and school buildings, PVC pipes covered by GI pipes from the well to school, construct new 4 washing units (1 unit has 4 taps), 6 tap posts, paint all constructions, etc…      
Parents, teachers and children help with labour for constructions and bring materials to construction site.
